Kabalega College Masindi Expands ICT Department to Support Growing Demand

Masindi, Uganda – Kabalega College Masindi’s ICT department is witnessing tremendous growth as the institution continues to evolve with the worldwide advancement in technology. Headed by Mr. Ayebale Romeo, the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) department has transitioned from a small section providing basic typing services to a robust and independent facility that offers critical support to the college’s staff and students.

Initially, the department began with just one ICT personnel, but with the expansion of the college and the increasing demand for computing services, the department now employs over seven technical and teaching staff. These professionals play an integral role in ensuring the smooth operation of the college’s technological infrastructure.

The ICT department at Kabalega College offers a variety of courses, including the National Diploma in Information & Communication Technology (NDICT), the National Certificate in Information Technology (NCCS), and a Certificate in Computer Applications (CCA). These programs, accredited by UBTEB and the college itself, range in duration from four weeks to two years, preparing students for the ever-evolving tech landscape.

In addition to providing education, the department is responsible for maintaining the college’s network infrastructure. With both wired and wireless network connectivity available across the campus, students and staff can seamlessly connect their devices for research, communication, and collaboration. The wireless network, accessible with student or staff login details, covers the entire college premises, while specific areas like offices and laboratories also have wired connections.

To further support learning and research, the ICT department has developed an e-library system that allows students, including those studying remotely, to access a wide range of library resources. Access is granted through student numbers and passwords generated by the department, ensuring security and ease of use.

Moreover, the ICT department plays a crucial role in computer maintenance and repair. From updating software to installing security patches and resetting passwords on mobile devices, the team ensures that all technology on campus operates smoothly and securely.

Kabalega College Masindi’s ICT department is setting a strong foundation for future technological developments, aiming to provide both quality education and essential services to the institution’s growing community.
